José María Mellado Takes Part in the 40th Anniversary Exhibition of Galería Aurora Vigil-Escalera

Gijón, October 2025.
To mark its 40th anniversary, Galería Aurora Vigil-Escalera is presenting a very special edition of its traditional photography exhibition, organized within the framework of the Encuentros Fotográficos de Gijón. This year, the show takes on a retrospective character, bringing together once again some of the most prominent names in contemporary Spanish photography who have exhibited at the gallery over the past decade.

Among the invited artists are Isabel Muñoz, Chema Madoz, Juan Manuel Castro Prieto, Dionisio González, Pablo Genovés, Alejandra Glez, Soledad Córdoba, José María Mellado, Paula Anta, Rosa Muñoz, and Laura Torrado. The exhibition, curated by Esther Maestre, director of the Encuentros Fotográficos de Gijón, offers a journey through the most significant moments in the gallery’s recent history and its collaborations with these renowned photographers.

The show will open on October 31 at Galería Aurora Vigil-Escalera (Gijón) and will remain on view until November 30, coinciding with the closing of the Encuentros Fotográficos. In addition, a special event will take place on Friday, November 28 at 8:00 p.m., where artists, curators, and visitors will come together to celebrate this important milestone.

This retrospective represents a unique opportunity to revisit landmark projects and acknowledge the careers of the artists who have helped establish the gallery as a benchmark in contemporary art in Spain. In the case of José María Mellado, his participation once again highlights his close relationship with the Gijón-based space and his ongoing commitment to promoting fine art photography.
